GROUP RULES

RESPECT

  • At Fourtrees is aimed at players who are aged 18 and above. If you are discovered to have lied about your age, we will remove you from the group and request that you decide what becomes of your character(s). We do not take lying about one’s age lightly, and it is likely that you will not be permitted to rejoin once you are of age.

  • While swearing is permitted, we ask that you do not do so in excess. Not everyone will be comfortable with superfluous cussing, please keep that in mind. You should never target another member with swears.

  • Sexually explicit content is absolutely prohibited; be it images, language, or links. If a member is discovered to be sexually harassing any server member, you will be permanently banned and reported to Discord. We have a no tolerance policy for explicit content being in the presence of minors. This also includes using words like milf, dilf, hot or sexy in response to people's characters / artwork; they're cats, don't be weird.

  • It is important that you are respectful to your fellow members and staff. We understand that sometimes you will have a bad day, but if you find yourself growing frustrated with another member, take a step back. Intentionally being facetious or hurtful, or purposefully excluding other members will not be tolerated; this group’s environment should be friendly and pleasant to participate in!

  • Discrimination against any group of person is not tolerated. No member should make inflammatory comments in regards to race, sexuality, gender, religion, ethnicity, disability, body or writing experience. For the comfort of our member-base as a whole, we ask that you avoid using slurs, regardless of if you have reclaimed them or not; just because you are comfortable with using a word, does not mean another party will be.

  • Do not be afraid to reach out to staff if another member is causing problems or making you uncomfortable. You can contact us through the ticket bot or private messages. What you share with us will be considered confidential unless we are given explicit permission to share your name or any specific details that you share with us.

  • Respect your fellow members’ triggers. There are general topics that we ask that you always spoiler, in and out of roleplaying, both images, links and in writing. **The trigger and prohibited topics lists can be found in the Resources channel, under the Information category.

  • Please tag these topics appropriately, either at the beginning of your post or before the spoiler tag. Repetitive failure to do so will result in a warning. If you are asked to stop discussing a certain topic, please comply, be it a request from staff or another member. If you feel that it is unfair, you can approach and speak to staff about it!

  • Art theft will not be tolerated. All art or images that you use must be your own, or properly credited. If you do not own an image or an art piece, it is important that you either have permission, or that it is free to use— this also applies to lineart/bases. If we suspect you are stealing or tracing art, we will contact you; furthermore, if you are concerned that your own art has been plagiarized, please get in touch with staff and we will assist you.

  • It is important that you can recognize the difference between in-character (the roleplay characters) and out of character (the other members). You should never bring conflict from one side into another; a person’s character’s actions or beliefs should not be treated as their own. Be mindful of people’s feelings; your character does not have to like everyone that they come into contact with, but refrain from personally making unsolicited negative/rude comments about someone’s character.

  • Understand that in-character actions will have consequences! Breaking the code, getting into fights with Clanmates, disobeying high ranks … All of these can impact your character in some way. In the situation of a staff-ordinated event, we will remind you of this rule; but you cannot argue or go against it out of character. By participating, you accept any consequences that befall your character.

  • God-modding/powerplay, meta-gaming and death-dodging are not permitted.

  • GOD-MODDING/POWERPLAY: When you assume the success of a character's actions without being given, or take control of other peoples’ characters during roleplay. You should always write their actions as an attempt, unless their success or failure has already been discussed in advance. Your character will have their own unique strengths and weaknesses; they cannot always win!

  • META-GAMING: Using external knowledge that a character would not be aware of, and applying it to their actions. While you may be aware of how something functions, or the true matter of a situation, your character may not. Any information in the Clan Life category is public knowledge and it be surmised that all characters are aware of it.

  • DEATH-DODGING: We will never kill a character without your consent, but please understand that they cannot go on forever. Keep in mind that, while you can place your character in as many life-threatening situations as you wish, their luck will run dry eventually. Generally, we will give you an option when your cat has reached their limit; have them go unconscious, or allow you to continue. If you proceed, you acknowledge the possibility that they will die. Character death is irreversible.

  • Make an effort to interact with members/characters outside of your usual friend circle! While it is more comfortable and familiar to engage with people that you already know, we would like for all members to try and include each other! It can open the way for interesting character development and possibly even brand new friends! No person should ever feel excluded. If you see someone being left out, maybe you could extend a branch.

CLAN RULES

THE WARRIOR CODE

  • Defend all the Clans, even with your life. Your first loyalty is to your Clan, but all cats who follow the warrior code are your allies. Each Clan must ensure that no other Clan falls.

  • Nevertheless, each Clan is proud and independent, with traditions that must always be respected.

  • An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win their battles, unless they are outside the code, or it is necessary for self-defense.

  • Elders, queens, sick or injured cats and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders.

  • A Gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night.

  • No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan.

  • A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.

  • The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies, retires, or is exiled.

  • After the death, retirement, promotion (to a leader status), or exile of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.

  • If a Clan member believes that their leader is no longer leading with honor and integrity, they can challenge them. Three-quarters of the Clan members, including their healers, must agree. Their objections will then be presented to the leaders of the other Clans. If the other leaders agree, all healers will request that StarClan remove the leader's remaining lives and give them to the deputy. These objections cannot be raised by the deputy.

  • A warrior or healer may switch their allegiance from one Clan to another but must meet a set of conditions. The cat wishing to change Clans must perform a task of their intended Clan’s choosing. If they succeed, it will be deemed StarClan’s will that they change Clans, and their request will be granted.

  • Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.

  • Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.

  • A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.

  • A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet.

  • Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats—but a warrior must always remember that all cats follow the warrior code.

ADDITIONAL RULES

  • Kits must stay in camp until they are apprenticed, and are not allowed to hunt.

  • The safety of the Clan as a whole is more important than the safety of one cat.

  • Clans must not unite together to drive out another Clan.

  • Clans must not force another Clan to share territory.

  • Enemy patrols must not attack cats if they are on a mission that all four Clans have agreed upon.

  • Cats cannot eat when going to the Moonstone to speak with StarClan.

CHARACTER CREATION

BIOGRAPHY

  • You can bring in a cat of any age and rank, so long as it is not leader, deputy or lead healer— those ranks are reserved for tryout situations. In At Fourtrees, any cat can choose to pursue a career in healing or caretaking; they will still require combat training, but their lives are not dedicated to it like that of warriors. Cats are also not forced to pick just one of the three career paths; they can pursue multiple at any point.

  • There is no limit to the amount of characters a member can bring in, and the only requirement that must be met is that you do not have an activity strike against you. This can easily be cleared by submitting activity posts for your characters. It is advised that you do not bring in more characters than you can handle.

  • Please refrain from overly satirical names; we will allow ‘joke’ names within reason. Names cannot exist to demean a cat’s skills/abilities/appearance, or have any offensive or sexual connotations; a cat can be named to honour an injury, however. No two fully grown cats can share the same name in the same Clan. This does not apply if they are both kits or apprentices.

  • Former kittypets are permitted to have collars/harnesses. All characters can wear natural accessories, such as insect wings, flowers, and vines. Bone and feather accessories are not permitted to be worn around the cranial region, to be conscious of and respectful to indigenous cultures.

  • If you are bringing in a kitten character, they must have a guardian. It can be a player character or an NPC. Furthermore, kits are not permitted to leave camp without being accompanied by an adult; you can attempt it, and staff will roll for success, but, like all in-character rule-breaking, there will be consequences for your kit.

  • All gender identities and sexualities are accepted, so long as it is written respectfully and appropriately. Cats are absolutely free to explore these aspects of themselves throughout the roleplay; if ever your character chooses to use different or new pronouns, inform staff and we will update the character sheet. Neopronouns are 100% accepted.

  • Your character cannot be descended from or related to any canon book characters— this story exists in a timeline separate from the books. Your character may not have any connection of reference to the Tribe of Rushing Water, as they do not exist in this group's canon and they are an offensive caricature of indigenous culture.

  • We do not have a cap or shop system for disabilities and mutations. You are free to apply these traits to your characters, so long as appropriate research is done and it is written with respect. However, if too many characters with a certain trait are made, we may request a temporary limit to avoid oversaturation.

DESIGN

  • Character designs/appearances must have reasonably realistic colours; pelts can absolutely have desaturated blue/purple/red/etc. tints, so long as it does not completely delve into unrealism. The same rule applies to markings; you are free to get creative with them, so long as a cat does not have a perfectly-shaped lightning symbol on their pelt, for example. Cats can have any eye colour. If ever you are unsure about a design, feel free to ask staff and we will give you an answer! We will make an effort not to be too strict and suspend our disbelief.

  • Cats can absolutely have hairstyles, so long as it is not ridiculously long or tied back with human items. We will allow them to have hair tied back with rudimentary cat-made items, like with vines or to be braided.

  • Most cat breeds are permitted in this group. However, in order for a cat to have heritage of a specific breed, they must have some sort of kittypet origin.

  • Partially hairless cats— such as lykois— will be permitted, but please keep in mind that they will struggle with wild living. The breeds that are absolutely not permitted are munchkins, purebred Scottish folds and Manx cats, due to their serious health complications, and completely hairless cats. Cats do not have to be a specific breed to have traits such as folded or curled ears, or shortened tails! Hybrid breeds are permitted, so long as they have traceable kittypet origins and are 25% or less of the wild cat species.

  • These are the height and weight guidelines. Height is measured at a cat’s shoulder, not the head or ears. You should keep in mind how height and weight will influence one another— a 8in cat being 10lbs may be built differently from a 10in cat being 8lbs, for example. If too many characters are in either oddity range, staff may temporarily limit it. Cats under the age of 12 moons do not need their height listed, but once they turn 12 moons, it must be listed. Bear in mind that most cats will be getting close to fully grown at 6 moons, completely filling out by 18 moons.

height

weight

thank you to Fox, Okibi, Koi and Narl's Return to the Wild for the height & weight charts.

  • The general Clan cat's connection with their ancestors is very little, almost next to none. The Dark Forest is merely a scary to most of these characters, especially to young cats and those who are not Clanborn. There will be no concrete influence of the afterlife in cats’ backstories, unless otherwise permitted in the case of adoptable NPCs, events or plots.

  • Discriminatory player characters are absolutely prohibited. They cannot exhibit any prejudice towards disability, gender identity, sexuality, weight/body, etc. While we allow antagonist characters such as this from NPCs in character backstory, you must ensure that it is written tastefully and the appropriate trigger warnings are given.

  • Predatory behaviour is absolutely prohibited— in roleplay and backstory— and will immediately be dealt with. Failure to respect these rules may result in strikes, or further consequences. Grown and underaged cats should not take any inappropriate interest in one another. Incestuous relationships are also completely prohibited, both in-character and backstory.

  • Characters should have well-rounded, in-depth personalities with a proper balance of good and bad. Refrain from boxing them into an archetype, or a one-note personality trait, such as a cat who is only a hothead, or a cat who is only nice, or a cat who is just evil to be evil. Personalities will grow and develop with the plot, but it should always feel fluid and natural!

  • All plotlines that contain sensitive material should be handled with respect and care, and appropriately tagged. While they may provide interesting development or an engaging storyline, please remember that there are real people behind these characters and you can never know what someone’s experience in life is. Treat narratives about topics such as abuse, death, LGBTQ+, disability, etc. carefully, and be sure to do proper research if you are not writing this from a place of experience.

  • Ensure that you are tastefully and correctly displaying disability or mental illness in your character, be it from personal experience or proper research; your character should not have these traits simply because you want your cat to suffer/have an angsty arc.

MECHANICS

TIME PROGRESSION & AGING

  • Time progresses by one moon every three weeks, on Sundays, and all characters will age up on that day.

  • Your characters will rank up so long as you do not have an activity strike! Kits become apprentices at 6 moons old, unless their ceremony is delayed.

  • Apprentices will become warriors at 12 moons, unless their leader chooses to have their ceremony earlier, or their ceremony is delayed. You are free to open a ticket and discuss such plots with staff & the Clan leader!

  • Your cat can remain a warrior for as long as they desire, but it will be recommended to them that they retire from 144 moons onward.

ACTIVITY CHECKS

  • Activity checks help maintain member participation and avoid having a group full of inactive players— but their requirements are minimal. They come every six real-life months, in March and September. You will be asked to do two things:

  • Provide at least one roleplay where you have done a minimum of five posts for each character that you own; this roleplay must have been done during this activity check period. It does not have to be completed, and there is no specific length requirement for the post.

  • Update your character's basic information on their biography— name, age, rank, and skill-related information. We would like for members to keep their applications as a whole up to date, but that is a suggestion rather than a requirement.

  • After one failed activity check, you will be unable to submit new characters or rank up existing ones until you complete the above requirements.

  • Failing two activity checks will result in the removal of your character(s) from the group; we will notify you and reach out to ask what you would like to have done with your cat(s).

  • Please ket us know if you plan to take a hiatus, and for around how long, so that we can make note of it!

STATS, SKILLS & KNACKS

  • At Fourtrees' gameplay mechanics are inspired by the Warriors Adventure Game-- click this link for the official resource; it is highly recommended to peruse, for an in-depth understanding of our mechanics' baseline. Some information is directly lifted from the official guide, typically with edits. We will not, however, be implementing every single feature of the WAG, so please refer to the information below or ask staff for help for accuracy when creating a character.

  • Let's start with stats;

Starting at apprentice age, your cat will have 5 stat points to distribute as you please, while adult-aged cats will have 10 stat points to distribute; kits do not have stat points to be allocated. Through activity and the Reputation shop, you can earn or purchase more points, for a maximum total of 10 per stat.

STRENGTH

Strength represents your apprentice’s physical power and coordination. Cats with higher Strength scores are better able to climb, pounce, wrestle, and do other bits of roughhousing. For those familiar with D&D stats, dexterity and constitution would also fall under this category. Cats with higher Strength will have more health points. When they fight, Strength makes their
blows hit harder (though not necessarily land more accurately).
Choose a high Strength score if you want your cat to be especially good at fighting, hunting, and other physical activities.

INTELLIGENCE

Intelligence represents your cat’s general knowledge and ability to figure out solutions to difficult problems. Cats with higher Intelligence scores are better able to remember things they’ve heard or seen before, figure out ways to successfully deal with new situations, and make complex plans to reach a difficult goal. When they fight, Intelligence lets them make very accurate strikes (though not necessarily land them with any extra power).Choose a high Intelligence score if you want your cat to be especially good at tracking, spotting danger, and understanding mysterious events.

SPIRIT

Spirit represents your cat’s general willpower and ability to understand how other cats feel about different situations. Cats with higher Spirit scores are better interpersonal situations, anticipating what someone else will do in a given situation, and sensing unseen changes in the world. When they fight, Spirit lets them anticipate where their foes are likely to strike next and get out of the way (though it doesn’t help much when it comes to striking back).Choose a high Spirit score if want you cat to be good at understanding the thoughts and problems of other cats, or take on a role of responsibility.
